O RACISMO RELIGIOSO E A INTERCULTURALIDADE CRÍTICA ENTRE OS GUARANI E KAIOWÁ EM MATO GROSSO DO SUL

Abstract

Religious racism is a phenomenon that causes the persecution and subordination of religious practices of certain groups that are already socially subordinated. This persecution is based on race and culture rather than on the practice itself. The concept of critical interculturality proposes a problematization of the original notion of interculturality, given the power asymmetries that affect cultures. The objective of this work is to analyze the religious racism suffered by the Guarani and Kaiowá indigenous peoples in a dialogue with critical interculturality. To this end, we explore the role of the Great Assembly of Guarani and Kaiowá Women in publicizing and combating cases and the actions of prayer leaders in the face of attacks by neo-Pentecostal groups. The data presented are from a master's thesis defended this year and obtained through documentary research, fieldwork, and participant observation. It is observed that the actions of the indigenous collective studied and of the prayer leaders in publicizing and combating religious racism are in line with what is understood as critical interculturality, seeking to defend their ways of life, affirm their identity, and mobilize support from non-indigenous people for their struggles.
