Abstract

Geotherapy refers to the use of land for therapeutic purposes. As it is an ancestral form of treatment, it has become modern due to the research that is being developed on the non-agricultural use of the soil as a medicinal and healing resource. This article is the result of preliminary studies of multiple soil use, in the case of the medicinal application of clays. It is a healthy alternative and highlights the need for sustainable activities and habits, changing our relationship with natural resources. The work aimed to deepen the knowledge of the origins and the historical path of geotherapy, through a bibliographic review.  A survey was conducted on the properties and effects to treat physical/emotional disorders and also cosmetic utilisation. The approach we use here took us to the field of research and to the need of exploring and consulting other areas of knowledge, where the use of clay and issues related to the environment is very present. In this sense, it is concluded that the use of the soil as a natural healing resource is already being appreciated, aiming a relationship on the health and social level.
